My reason for joining BYC....

We got Bea from TSC when NONE of the eggs I put under a broody hen hatched (She kinda half-assed it.).

We have since curtailed the issue by giving broody moms clay eggs to sit on and hatching the actual eggs in an incubator.

Bea was attacked by a dog at 6 weeks and lost 90% of her vision. She contracted the Ocular form of Marek's Disease and she scratched her eye so much she developed Coryza. She lost what vision she had left. But we had already taught her to chicken prior to that. Now she uses hearing and touch to traverse her condo and we restrict her outside adventures to specific areas she has learned. My husband keeps it manicured so it's always the same.

But, her outside escort is my fine looking Silchin Roosters. Oddly, with other hens, he's not so gentle. With her, he's sweet and coaxing. It's absolutely amazing.
.she wasn't born blind and survived?....wow sooo glad 2 hear something postive about roosters. My roosters are "primitive", just so mean to my hens and they kill my chick's I release 2 free range. Have to thin them out and eat chicken for a week or so.

First off, I admire you both, @KaTim0719 and @Mason Farm and Ranch for not listening euthanizing your special birds. I've lived with many special needs pets (currently, a blind rescue dog and an eyeless cat,) both two- and four-legged. They accept their lives as is and can have wonderful existences, especially when someone cares as much as you both do.

I am sorry that Millsap couldn't have spent more time with you; a short well-loved life is still a life that matters. And, best wishes for Bea and Henry; they are clearly also living their best lives.
I admire you more. So much compassion and patience. Not sure I could have more than 1 special case at a time. 2 soft hearted I guess

I'm a strict disciplinarian? I'll slap a chicken. But chickens are pretty smart. I use specifically colored spray bottles for bad behavior.

But in truth, some breeds are far more aggressive than others. I make sure to set boundaries and try to keep a sufficient hen ratio.
