Shamgar is a frizzle polish cross and in the middle of a molt. needless to say, he looks like a dinosaur gladiator that was bathed in acid and run through a wood chipper. i bought him from some nice people down the road because he looked so mangy.
anyways, i got him home and put him in with my hens. he was in shock and hid in a corner which i thought was pretty normal until he gets comfortable. now a week or two has gone by and although he is fine with my 6 hens, he is deathly afraid of me! when i go into the run, which is fairly big, he runs to the other side while all the hens run to me. so annoying! i want a big rooster who wants to fight and wrestle me!
the best part is, he's gotten out twice and ran into the woods.
one time was early in the morning. he was gone all day, i thought he was a goner.....but when i came back that night, he was in the run like nothing ever happened! there is no possible way that i can think of for him to get in there, especially since he can't fly due to his frizzle-ness.
the second time, i went to put them a way at night with a friend of mine. they were already in the coop when we got there and i counted six hens, so did my friend. then we recounted 3 more times to make sure. he was nowhere to be found and sure enough there was a hole in the fence where he got out. kinda bummed out, i just went to bed thinking he was done for considering the raccoon population. the next morning he was in the SEALED coop! there is no way in or out when the door is closed.....both me and my friend made sure multiple times that he wasn't in there the night before
