Any guesses on this guy? I paid $5 for him to save him from being dog food

He is probably just a mixed breed. Very pretty. Has golden barring.

There are some rarer type breeds that somewhat resemble this coloring, but those are rare and I really doubt anyone would be selling for $5.

My guess is at least part Golden Cuckoo Marans. He is a pretty boy!

He is shockingly good to all the hens and has fought off at least one stray cat. And keeps his eyes on my cats at all times. But the woman I bought him from had 14 roosters and was going to cull him for dog food. So now he runs all my chick's.

My first thought was a pretty mixed breed. Sounds like a good roo if he fought off a stray cat!

Right...he has more gold, though, so maybe there's Buff Orpington in there, too..?

He's most likely a mix of mixes. Both Orpingtons and Marans have white skin. The rooster in question has yellow skin. He has no Orpington or Marans in his recent ancestry.
I have a similar rooster that is the result of Easter Egger and Barred Rock crosses.
