My naked neck was attacked by my rooster today and it took about a quarter size of skin from the back of her neck. Not actively bleeding. I cleaned it with a wet towel as best I could tonight, applied bacitracin on it, and she is in a cat carrier in our bathroom. She is only 12 weeks. What would you recommend for healing the quickest? Will the area with skin removed heal?

We are thinking we have to find a new home for him. We want him to go to a good home that won't eat him. He is beautiful and great with people. We can't keep having her attacked. He picks on the baby silkys too.

There is a forum section on here for free rehoming where you can list him. Just make sure to be clear on any issues he may have. You can also post in your state thread.

If she has a red wound the other chickens are going to peck and peck at her- you can apply blue kote to cover and heal it so that she can go back with her flock (but not the rooster, of course)

Yeah- he's still semi in the teenage roo phase...but roosters do grab on to the necks of the hens during mating. Usually they have feathers and it's not a problem.

I'm not quite sure how you could stop him from hurting her....kind of the nature of the beast it seems.

Someone else may have a suggestion!

That's good to know! We were going to check with our local feed store tomorrow. Supposedly they find homes too. If that doesn't work, that will be my next move. Blue Kote, I saw that. If we can remove the rooster tomorrow I will definitely get that so she can be back with her sisters.

Yeah, we are pretty sure we need to find a home for him, but we want him to be well taken care of and not eaten. My son hatched him from an egg. He is very sweet otherwise.
