Yes, when I was growing up we had 12 commercial poultry houses we ran for a company here. I don't remember thinking too much about the birds eating too much, or how big they got. I do remember we used to take a few from every new flock home and care for them, especially the ones who were sick or deformed. We thought we could save them, at least keep them from being culled. We I decided to start raising my own chickens as an adult, all I really knew about was the meat birds, although now I realize they are a LOT different that regular chickens, in that they require more attention....but it's worth it.
