My rooster has paid for himself. Warning, graphic

No possums up here. Weasels and coons are really the only thing capable of getting over a fence, through 2 doors and up a ramp. I had owls take hens before, that was different too and we've covered the top. No owls since then thank goodness

My neighbor set a trap & caught a coyote in his coop while he was gone .He never knew he caught it because the trap and stake were gone when he returned. He thought someone had stolen them until I asked what happened the night all those coyotes were up at his coop

I'm a little confused. By "coop," do you mean a fully enclosed wooden building made of wood, with a door that latches and/or locks? And by "run," do you mean a fenced enclosure, with or without a mesh or fence top? If your birds were in a coop, how did a predator get in to attack them? Or were they actually in a run?

In either case, I'm glad your hen survived and is improving.

well, exciting conclusion!!! It's been a long summer. Rocky has some scarring but shes fine. Ozzy, not so much.

found out what happened.

So, rocky was in the birdie hospital for a week. Healed nice, let her back out with the flock.
The next day I heard screaming and ran over. That bastard of a rooster was holding down another hen and was trying to rip off her comb.

So, he goes into time out for a week. The girls calmed down. I didn't realize he was stressing them that much.

Let him out and he's great all day. Until it's almost coop time. He grabbed rocky, and started trying to straight up kill her. She would be dead if he had spurs.

So, Ozzy is now gone. Made a roast outta that jerk. That smug look was him saying 'ha! I'm top chicken '

The other day I invested in a free adult rooster from someone having too many. Today was meet the girls. First thing rocky did was try and dominate him. This time he didn't freak out. Simply put her down 4 times until she walked away. And he dances for the girls instead of beating on them. If they don't wanna breed he let's them walk away. Now this is a roo!

So yeah. Bad neck battle wound, very badly bleeding comb. Rough looking hens = bad rooster.
