I started out with 6 chicks late last year and ended up with 4 roosters. I arranged to return 3 of the roosters and exchange them for hens of the same age. since the day the other roosters left and were replaced by the new hens my one remaining rooster has stopped crowing! anyone know why?

Maybe because he does not have another rooster to sound off of or maybe it really wasn't a roo.

Unless something is disturbing the flock my roo doesn't crow much in the wintertime. It's not the busy mating season and he's content to just hang out and dream of spring and the chance to father lots of chicks.

I agree, I am positive he is a rooster, he was the first of the 4 to start crowing and he was very vocal up till the others left, so I think he is just real happy to have the competition leave!! all those girls to himself he can't wait till spring:)

Maybe he doesn't want to meet the same fate as the other three? Whatever the reason, you are so LUCKY!!! I had to process my last roo a couple of weeks ago because he was crowing too much. If it hadn't been for that, I would have much preferred to keep him.

I had one little roo a long time ago that never crowed. I thought I was so lucky and decided to keep him. All was well for almost a year until one of the neighbors got a rooster then all crowing broke loose and I had to rehome him

Sometimes they won't make much noise unless they hear another.
