my rooster is attacking me!!!

Get rid of him. I tried to "deal with and work with" a mean rooster and he ended up flying at the face of my 1 year old grandson (luckily I got ahold of him before he actually made contact).

Mean rooster got an appointment with the shot gun and I got a VERY sweet rooster from a friend. Like someone else said, too many nice ones out there to have to deal with a meanie!

It was also nice not to have to watch my back everytime he was around. I had not even realized I was doing that until he was gone.

My black Australorp has attacked my two kids once, 4 and 6, and me three times. The first time I fended him off with a kick, but he came at me 3 times. Then I forced him into a corner and stood there. The second he did the same, but got me good on the leg, even after being kicked. I still have bruises- good thing I had jeans on. He did it again the next day, but I didn't kick at him, just stood my ground. He stopped. The thing that ticks me off, though, is he sneaks up on me and does it. My kids are scared of him now, and my 4 y.o. won't go outside when they are free ranging. He's so good to the girls, I'd hate to see him go. But he will go if he doesn't cut it out soon. He's about a year old, and I 've had him about a month. He was low man at his other house, and he's my only roo- get's to be BMOC. I don't know if that's it or not. I'm not sure he's even breeding the girls, I never see him do it, nor do they have any missing feathers. Hmmm.

Problem is also is that you MIGHT be able to fix him from attacking YOU but he will continue to stalk your kids unless they can establish dominance over him as well.

To me, if my kids were scared to go out in the yard, he would be SOUP.

Leezybeezy, have you ever considered what his toenails, spurs or beak might do to your kids' eyes? Get rid of him before he does something that you will regret forever.

I could not agree more with this! I about had a heart attack when the mean rooster I had went for my 1 year old grandson and I was standing RIGHT THERE. He came within inches of his little face. Luckily I got ahold of him and no contact was made but if I had missed my grandson could have had serious injury!

i got rid of my welsummer roo for the same reason - he just would not stop jumping on me, and i was afraid he would harm the grandkids

Mine started that last week when his girl was in brooding... I just chased him around the yard and threatened bodily harm...he's been fine for a week now. He's just trying to show you who's boss... NOT! Make it clear and he'll give you respect...
With chickens I had when I was a kid, I also have taken a rake with me, and that seems to make the point if you need to... swing like in the Majors... Kinda like when we were kids... a swift smack in the butt and it made a point, cured me of behavior.. I think the new child method of talking won't work...
Enjoy him, he's not ready for the pot yet!

Little BRAT did it again tonight to me, barely hopped against my leg, when I turned my back on him as we entered the coop for treats. I guess he thinks I am too close to the girls. WT heck!! He got both boys good, drew blood. This is my first group, so I am inexperienced. I have chased him with the rake, but it scares the girls too, which I don't want. I have been carrying a small broom with me, which scares him. Of course, didn't have it tonight. But, after reading other posts, I realize that I am afraid of him too, which isn't good.

UGH. Do you think I should offer him back to his previous owner, before I - gulp- cull him.
