My Rooster is having to much fun with my hens.(If you know what I mean?..)

How many hens do you have with this rooster?

A normal size flock shouldn't be suffering from roo wear unless certain hens are more...eager..shall we say? to be bred. These eager breeds I cull from the flock as one rooster to 28 hens is a good ratio and there shouldn't ever be feather loss there.

Most folks recommend 10 hens to one roo for adequate and equal coverage of all hens but not excessive wear on any one bird.

It matters how much space there is, as well. If the hens can put some space between themselves and the roo, they've got a better chance of avoiding him. If there isn't much of anywhere to go to get away, they don't have time to respond to the wacky puff up check me out dance many roos do before leaping aboard.

My roo likes the ladies too.He has 6 of them.So far they still have their feathers.I would do the saddles. The ones from demin jeans seems like it would last long.

well,.. think I can rule that out--- we have a paradise for them--probably a 20 x 15 @ the coop, and then we let them out in the back area which is a Large area probably a 50 X 30---I think we will give the Saddles a try and work towards adding more chickens----I think what you and the rest of yall on this forum gave us some Great advice and ideas. We just found this site by accident and find it to be very informative, helpful and FUN!!! THANKS!!
