My rir's purr when they see birds of prey... or they think that's what they see. Usually they are doves or vultures! The first time they did it I spent a good while looking for a cat in and around my chicken coop. They also make noises like wild birds... tore the coop apart thinking there was a bird in it... I'm telling you these birds are comedians.
