My rooster is missing his top beak! What do I do?

Didn’t think about that part. Yeah I could see where that may be an issue. If you get him alone for a little while and use A bowl you may be able to check the water level after while to see if he actually got any in him. And if he’s alone you can measure his food and then measure it after he eats to see if he’s gotten any in him also. Just trying to think I feel so bad for the dude. Roosters are pretty tough though.

Thanks so much. I’m going to do this and also weigh him every few days like another commenter suggested.

Agreed: a couple of my hens are missing the tip of their beak, and one is already almost grown back. If your up to doing this every day, you could use a dropper to give him water (or mash). I had to do this when we had a sick hen and she wouldn't eat or drink
Great idea too. I was wondering what I’d do if he wasn’t getting food. I haven’t thought of this. I’m going to keep it in my arsenal incase he isn’t getting adequate nutrition. After all the coddling he’ll lilely really become a favorite. Or hate me. Whichever comes first. Lol thanks for that idea

Give him some poultry nutridrench while it heals up. Put neosporin with pain killer on the beak. My rooster lost some of his top beak (it grew back luckily) and the pain killers really helped him eat and drink. Also being with the hens really encouraged him to eat and drink.

Wow I have never seen anything like that! I hope he does ok. Animals are pretty adaptive I think he will figure out how to eat and drink if he hasn't already. Good luck!

I looked it up and from what I read beaks are like fingernails and it will grow back eventually:love
You think even when it’s completely gone ? Did what you read say it will still grow back? I read it’s very painful but he’s pecking at my shoe so he can’t be in that much pain- right?

I’m at tractor supply as I type. I just happened to check to see if anyone else had suggestions while I’m here. I’ll buy that. Thanks a bunch! Can all my chickens get that? I have them on probiotics and electrolyte and b complex too.

But the one with a dropper top. It’s very messy and smells kinda yuck, bitter tasting (my rooster dribbles it one me) You give him a dropperful every (check the bottle) once and a while. The neosporin you just rub on with a Q-tip

Last year I had a chick that was missing her top half of her beak just like your roo. I found that the wet mash would get stuck in the bottom half of her beak and I would have to clean it out. Instead of using a mash try using a pellet or a crumble she was able to pick up the bigger pieces easier and eat them. She was doing great until a hawk got her :( :th.
I never knew how her beak got broken their was never any bleeding and she did not seem to be in any pain.
