can anyone think of what could of happened to my rooster?
he went missing and we cant seem to find him. all my chickens are free range and go wherever they please. no feathers or even signs of him anywhere!
i havent seen him since this mornig although i dont recall seeing roost at night although i really wasnt looking.
any ideas?

To keep things optimistic, let's say he's still out there and just taking a bit of a hike. Are there any sounds or calls you make when it's feeding time? Make them! Also you can try pouring their food(especially if it is pellets) over a metal pie pan or piece of plexiglass. This sounds like you are pouring them dinner but the metal makes it louder so maybe he would hear? This worked for a missing kitty once. We poured kibble over a pie pan and she came running.

On the more pessimistic side, assuming he's been nabbed by something, the best thing you can do is ramp up the protection for your other birds. Perhaps a moveable run for when you aren't available to watch them. If it is big enough they will still get the free range feel. Also do a double check over your coop for holes or spaces just in case. You could try to set a have a heart trap as well to see if you can catch a possible perpetrator, or maybe even the roo!

Well, mine just went down the throat of probably a fox. It happened in broad daylight right under my nose and I still didn't see the culprit. I would say something similar happened to yours.

Don't want to sound unsympathetic, I'm just still p.o'd about my poor ol' fella.

That handsome little fella is 'hawk-sized'. A bird of prey could easily change the course of his life forever. But, maybe, he's found some ladies down the road at your neighbours ..... yes?

He is really beautiful. What kind is he? My rooster disappeared without a trace off the roost one night. There wasn't a sign of a fight or anything. Then a couple of days later, one of my hens who liked to sleep up on my back deck on the railing by the door just disappeared without a feather left. Well, then it turned into a lock down and chicken count every day and I'd loose another mysteriously. Over a two mo. period I lost 6 birds and I finally found the culprit in my backyard in the middle of the day with feathers in it's mouth and one lucky roo. who got away. It was a HUGH bobcat. The State trapper came in and got it the next day in a trap and then I purchased a livestock guard dog and all is well now. No more lost chickens and the dog watches them all day and night! I hope your's is safe. Look around really good because once when mine was gone for three days I found him with a piece of twine around his spur and he was stuck there, never called out. They get real quiet when they are trapped. Also had one get into a feed barrel, lid was put back on, and that one was there for 5 days!!! Look around real good. Good luck. Sharon

i think something got him in the tree. such as an owl or something

thats why I always locked my chickens up ion the coop at night. they were allowed ro run free during the day. Always did a head count at roosting time to make sure everyone made it in safely.

I bet something got him.
