My rooster is terrorizing the flock

Yes. He is in a crate in the run. Is that the right thing to do?
For now. That way they won't forget him. Once you identify all the other cockerels in the bunch you can boot the whole lot into a bachelor run, including him. If he continues to cause problems after that then you may have to come up with other plans.

Update...he spent the night peacefully in the coop with the other chickens but this morning when I let them all out he started causing trouble again. So I put him in a cage until I figure out what to do. I don't thnk I can get rid of him because he's beautiful.

I have one boy out with 2 girls his age(5 months) and 4 girls that are just over 3 months. Every now and then he gets one of the younger girls and they scream. Some feathers flew yesterday before I walked in and broke it up. It's not the norm though. He does not over mate the 2 his age at all. If they try to get away he lets them. The other boy wanted to mate all the time. He is now living in the house until I can build him his own area. I could not part with him.
