My rooster is trans.

I got this boy about a month ago when he was a teenager. Ever since he arrived he has decided to sleep in a nesting box. At the time, I had one hen who was broody and doing the same thing. She has since quit but he hasn’t.
I have tried dragging him out of the box when it is dark and putting him on the roost but is quite a chore. He is a big boy.
I know I could cover the boxes at dusk but that involves uncovering them early in the morning every day.
Big pain in the neck.
Anybody have a better suggestion?

Hello! What do your flock dynamics look like? I had a roo, poor boy, who would sleep in the nestboxes because of a bully. Removing the bully fixed the problem straight off.

He may look like a big boy but he is still a scared little boy at heart. Since he has only been with you for a month he is still not sure where he fits into the flock. And the hens may not have completely accepted him yet. The nest box is a safe spot for him. Give him time and he will join the girls when he is ready.

He's doing that because he's not allowed on the roosts, it's completely normal for younger or new chickens who haven't earned their right to
Did you quarantine at all? How did you integrate?

My rooster does this. I leave him be. I am in the process of building a separate coop so it won't disrupt the hens.
