my rooster just went broody.....

OMG! You have an egg-laying, chick hatching rooster! Pack up the car and hit the road- you could make a bazillion dollars! Seriously though, my Silkie roo would frequent the nesting boxes quite a bit. He would also take a broodys chicks and feed them and let them under him to get warm (and he crowed ALL the time, definitely a boy). Maybe the people you bought him from made a mistake and sold you 2 pullets instead of a pair. If you took pics from the front of the bird, we could probably confirm one way or another. Good luck- maybe you can market the first rooster eggs!

From the one pic you posted, your roo looks like a hen to me. The floof on top of the head is a more evenly rounded ball, as opposed to a crest with streamers. It could just be the angle, though... Post more pics? And your thread title gives me the lols.

let me know i could have gotten them mixed up!, but neither one is crowing and they're about a year!

Those both look like pullets to me! My rooster is the same age, and he is much more easily sexed.

They should have streamers out of their crest if male.

And trust me, if one was a roo, you would know

Those are nice looking Silkies! (ok not show quality, but they have the extra cute gene).

Fortunately they are both girls. Lucky you, you get to justify getting another chicken!

If you apply chicken math though, your second girl doesn't count because you didn't intend to buy her (plus she's broody). So in all reality, if you buy a rooster, you still only have a pair!

I read something really interesting on feathersite.com. It said that most hens use only their right ovary to lay, but occasionally if that ovary isn't functioning or whatever, they will lay from the left ovary. The left ovary makes more testosterone, so the chicken will have more male characteristics, and can sometimes even crow, even though she's female. Maybe that explains why your silkie looks more masculine than your other?
