My rooster keeps attacking me, what do I do??

I have 2 roosters, 4 hens, and 4 young chicks (no genders yet). My older rooster has the tendency to just come at anyone who gets within 5 feet of him. I'm tired of getting my legs cut up and bruised but I don't want to hurt him or get rid of him unless there's no other option. What can I do to stop him from being a jerk to humans?

First off it is not good to have 2 roosters with only 4 hens, the hens could get hurt. You need about 8 hens per rooster if you wan to keep 2. I've had many a mean rooster honestly none of them turned from their mean ways , I know a few people who have been able to make them behave. I know how that is, we used to have 3 cockerels but it definitely was a bad a idea

, since we didn't have enough hens.

I just gave my rooster away. I have 15 hens and he was tearing up their backs and their heads were bald. I've always heard 10 hens to a rooster. But with my experience, I'm not so sure I'll ever get another one.

The 10:1 ratio is for fertility efficiency in commercial breeding situations.
Many breeders keep pairs, trios, quads with no problems.

If you need a cockbird....keep the best one and eat the rest.
Do not give away a human aggressive cock without full disclosure of his behavior.

Every rooster is different. I definitely wouldn't keep any rooster who shows aggression towards humans. I had enough of that as a kid. All my roosters are respectful towards people. I always give my roosters some time as far as judging them with the hens. Unfortunately most roosters aren't needed and there isn't enough good homes, an aggressive rooster is best made into dinner and save the good homes for the good roosters.

You definitely have 1 possible 2 to many roosters for 4 hens and just a side note getting more hens probably won't change the aggressive ones behavior. Unfortunately getting rid of or culling mean roosters is a part of having chickens.Roosters aren't needed unless your planning to breed and you don't want to breed with the bad ones as their sons will most likely show the same traits.
