I lost my last hen tonight, I think an eagle took her from the pen (electric fence enclosure) :( leaving Gary The Rooster totally unhinged, he was making lots of strange noises spinning in a circle :/
My question is, should I get my Rooster some pullets (15-20wks)? Will he accept them even if they aren’t sexually mature? Strategies, ideas to keep Gary (see photo) from loosing it? Thanks!

Hello, and welcome to posting. Whatever took your hen's will be back for your Gary. If you cannot make sure that nothing can get Gary, then maybe you should wait on getting more hen's for him. You need to shore up the top of your pen to keep the eagles and hawk's from getting in there.

I'm very sorry for your and Gary's loss. I am far from an expert, but if you get some young pullets, can you keep them separated from Gary, but within his view?

I have a problem rooster -- which is putting it mildly, he is way too aggressive with me -- but he is very protective of his girls. Billy Boy spends much of his life in "chicken jail," where he is penned to keep me safe, with his girls are on the other side of the fence. He can see them, socialize with them and tidbit for them. He can do everything except breed them and attack me.

Hope things work out for you and Gary. He is a very handsome boy.
