My Rooster saga

My rooster did use to chase after a certain hen but Young’s never got bad like this, just an occasional run off, this is extreme. It is normal for a chicken to just chase another away but soem things go too far, maybe try Seperating him for some time or get rid of him.

A mature rooster shouldn't be attacking your hens, my rooster will sometimes chase and circle the hens which is normal but he would never attack them. Obviously he's a jerk rooster if he is pulling out their feathers and hurting them. My hens trust my rooster and follow him everywhere he goes. If yours are terrified of him then I would right away separate him.

He just turned a year old ...I was giving him time to mature AWAY from them but he really hurts one hen...deep gash on the top of her head. I really wanted a rooster to watch over my hens and he ignores me so that I thought was perfect. I would love to have a rooster like yours. I'm wondering if it's not cause he was their sibling. *shrugs*

I've had him separated close to two months now...I despurred him thinking that would help and also someone said he was young and later he would calm down...but I didn't realize he was actually attacking one hen until the other day when I let him out to see how he would act. He mates the others and it's clear to me now, he's not trying to mate with her although he did at one time. So it's a dilemma on what to do. I'm tired of keeping them separated since I have 6 new chicks that will need to go into the barn and now I'm afraid of him hurting them also.

Sorry but I am the opposite position on this. I would separate the hen and leave the rooster with his other hens if he is not harming them in any way. It seems apparent that there is something different about her that he does not want around. Nature has a way of sensing things that we do not. I would separate her until she heals and see what goes from there. Just my opinion that's all.

Honestly, I had put an apron on her to protect her back and I think that is why he doesn't like her now. She is now healed...I was trying to put him back in the flock yesterday which did not work.
