My rooster scares me to death!

Refrain from the abuse and revisit how your previous interactions might be promoting his aggressive tendencies. Keeping them as pets is not a problem, I do the same with a few of mine. When working with them in such close quarters you need to be considerate of how they perceive your actions and work to make so they do become aggressive in the first place.

Put the stick away and wear proper clothing until aggression issue is resolved.

We had a very aggressive rooster. I say had, because he is very docile now.

I was getting attacked every time I entered our chicken enclosure. The enclosure is 30 X 30 fenced with a top enclosed with game bird netting. I was seriously thinking about getting rid of him.

After some internet research I decided to try rehabilitating him. I found a limber tree sapling about 3 feet long. It was about as big around as a pencil but very flexible. Each time I entered the enclosure I would take it with me. When charged me I would smack him across the back with it. Wasn't stiff enough to seriously injure him, but substantial enough to hurt. Took about 5 or 6 events like this and he stopped the aggressive behavior. Now he just keeps his distance from me and the rest of the family.

The cool part is he will still charge everything else. Dogs, squirrels, people he does not know.
Thank you for your post! My broomstick does quite well at keeping him at bay.
