My rooster tries to fight me

If you want an already full grown rooster from an average aggressive breed then you end up in their shoes.
I have the world’s greatest pet rooster I raised myself from a chick so I made him a total pet.

Not all already full grown roosters are gonna be aggressive. It depends on the individuals.

All breeds are different but since Im not here to bicker about birds, a less aggressive breed is obviously a wiser choice.

This board is from December, I am sure the original poster has figured out their situation by now. Lavender orpingtons are amazingly calm and gentle normally, I am sure it was just that hormonal stage most roosters go through.

when are you going into the coop? why not just go in when they’re roosting and avoid the confrontation? i only go in the coop to refill feed and i always do it at night. i use a 200 lb hog feeder with a flock of 24...so it’s not often...but if i refill that or oyster shells at night and it doesn’t cause a raucous.

i like my rooster too. my profile pic is of him and me. i just don’t test his limits. i can pick him up easily from the roost. if i try to pick up a hen during daylight, rooster is not happy!
