My rooster wont stop crowing

And there's nothing like walking to the truck to go to work, it's dark, it's quiet, you're almost to the door and....

ER, ER-ER, ER-EEEEEER!!!!

Came close to touching cotton that morning.
Oh em gee, you spelled that purrrfectly! Got me laughing over here. Oh, and thinking about going to work at 0600 on Wednesday mornings when I finally get my flock going. :D

We have just added a roo to our flock. he came from one of my egg customers who finally got a little flock of her own going. She didn't want a roo though. I had no idea they would crow ALL hours of the day or night! Will he ever calm down at night?

He must really think my lovely bride is a threat. He constantly crows when she is sitting on the porch. It's the night crowing that surprised me. I thought that was only a daylight thing. Might have reconsidered the natural way to grow a flock....lol.

Are there lights shining on the coop?

My in-town rooster crowed at night and we figured out that it was because we were on a corner lot and he was responding to the car headlights that hit the coop when people turned.

My current boys crow at night if a full moon is shining into the coop.

No. We live in the country and it's dark out here. No lights that I know of where the coop/run is.

When you watch a rooster you realize it takes quite a bit of effort to belt out a good crow. It has to be physically demanding to win the crowing competition.

Does crowing burn extra calories that we paid good money for at the feed store.? Does the act of crowing make them more physically fit? Does crowing prove who is the most physically fit to begin with? Inquiring minds...

Crowing serves multiple functions. As the rooster gets around 2 1/2 years old he is less likely to crow at night.

Mine started at 1 year to 2 1/2 years crowing at midnight. But it wasn't every night. He did stop crowing at night and just crows in the morning and at dusk to get the hens in the coop.

It's guess it's a good thing I live where our homes are well insulated, double pane windows, and for a lot of the year, gray skies and precipitation. He didn't crow quite so much as a cockerel.

Well now it's time to train mine. He tried to run up on me this morning after letting them out. He has run up on my wife and daughter as well. I guess it's time to catch him and sit on him to show who is the real rooster in the yard. Oy, working with animals....lol.
