My Russian Blue Kitty died last night :(

Had a Siamese cat, that died at six years old, did the SAME thing. She screamed, thud to the floor that hubby jumped out of bed and found her just dead. Unresponsive. Lost all her bowel movements on the floor when we picked her up. She was in perfect health too, playful and bright eyed and beautiful coat. Nothing was amissed either.

Talked to the vet, she said heartworms ,heart defect that was not detected, and blood clots somewhere in their system. There is NOTHING we could do. We didn't think about heartworms for cats, we thought it only occur in dogs. Even this cat was solely indoors and we both were stumped why she was in wonderful health. Heartworms are more common in cats than heart defects (which our cat didn't have any problems the year prior to her death) and not sure of blood clots ( has not been injured or got into something she shouldn't have).

We both would never know what happened to our cats but sooner or later, we will probably hear more and more cat owners coming forward with the same information.

I just read this! I am so sorry for your loss! You can take some comfort Knowing your kitty was happy right before he died. It is never easy weather they die instantly or they have to be put to sleep due to some Illness.

Thank you all so much. Life is going on as usual at the farm. All other cats are fine and I tend to think it may have been a heart defect or something. He was quite sickly when he came from the shelter and it took him forever to recover. Who really knows. Sadly I don’t dare to get another kitty from a shelter since our farm seems to be an animal dumping ground as it is. People seem to think that just because we have a farm, we will welcome any unfixed sort of animal that gets thrown out of a car. Maybe one day I will get a replacement but for now I am just glad everybody is healthy and happy.

Such a pretty kitty. I am sorry he died like that. It must have been such a shock.Hugs.

Thanks Mattema. I will miss him. But at least he didn't die in the shelter, he had a good life for a little while. And he is buried with my horse. That is quite the honor around here.

did your kitty have a distemper shot?
unfortunately with distemper they can just keel over.
That's not saying that was what happened, I am no vet.
some things are contageous. the problem can live somewhere in the house.
there's a lot of variables.
I am sorry about your kitty. Aren't the Russian Blues incredible cats. Ours was so agile he almost looked like he was doing ballet when he was reaching up for something.
Unfortunately he had a taste for plastic vinyl things. a year after he passed away we found an ant trap in our closet and it had puncture marks from his teeth. I am pretty sure he died from poisoning from that trap. When I found it my heart broke all over again.
