My sad, simple coop...but I'm proud

aesthetics is for you not the birds...this thing appears to have access for you to feed and water...room for the birds....seems secure enough to keep them in and safe and predators out relatively well.....hmm me thinks this is a great coop...disclaimer unlike you I make my living building real buildings...and again great looking coop

Looks great buddy! I am a huge fan of recycling wood and wire myself so a lot of what I build looks mismatched. I love your door!

I actually cut one like that in half and used it as the door on two brooder houses. It was my first project as a teenager so yours brings back a lot of great memories.

Your coop and run look good to me!

You don't have to spend a zillion bucks for your birds to be well cared for.

To get our fence tight, we threaded a stout rebar through the wire and used the bar to help stretch. It enables you to put pressure on the entire width of the wire, not just in one place. We would put the bar into the wire just past the place where the wire is attached to the next post. One person leans back on the bar, while the other person frantically hammers staples into the wood. I was always the one leaning on the bar!

It's great to see more hamfisted and recycling 'rustic' builders coming out of the closet.

I thought that we were in the minority. The style makes possible limitless experiments at innovation.

I'm waiting for the rains to ease off and the ground to dry out to start my third coop. The roof will be reed again (cool in hot weather), the back wall will be narrow tree trunks felled from our rice land (trees grow quicker than turkeys here), the corner posts and rafters will be made from nice straight, strong eucalyptus (cultivated for paper pulp), the other three walls will be wire on frames, the roosts will be felled tree branches and the floor will be lovingly sculpted from earth topped with discarded rice husks. Unless the design changes as we build it!

Great job!!! My dh & I just finished our 1st and only coop - Most of our materials were reused/repurposed items. Once we painted the whole structure, the different plywood/siding all blended & didn't look as piece mealed.

As far as the plastic storage, I think you said it was 8'x8' - and you can't get the top on. Here is an idea. Leave the top off and the doors. Lay the shed on the ground with the door side open on the ground. With the top off, attach that side to the coop as the opening from your run into the coop. Does that make sense?

As far as attaching it to your wire/posts - I think you can drill holes in the plastic & use screws and washers to attach it to the wire and/or posts. Perhaps you could build a frame around the shed and attach the wire to the frame and the frame to the shed.

I'm not sure what to tell you about predator proofing the shed though (around the edges on the ground).

The wood is from used packing cases and demolished village houses. As you can see, the gingerbread house builders didn't rave about it.

I think it looks just fine! And regardless of how pretty or ornate a coop is, the poultry are going to add their own finishing touches to the design.
