MY SCARECROW - Scary or silly? Share your scarecrow pics!

You do have a very handsome looking rooster! But, I truly feel terrible to hear the story though. I truly think anything we can do to help protect our chickens is always worth to discuss or spend time brain-storming! I recently discovered a falcon in my neighborhood and I am definitely working on putting a scarecrow of my own. I will post a picture, as soon as that gets done!

Can't wait to see yours.My scarecrow seems to be working for me out here in the country of the western NC foothills.I guess I do fear that any wild animal can lose it's fear of man (or scarecrow ) given enough exposure. I once witnessed a hawk TEAR APART a pigeon that he'd just dive-bombed on a sidewalk on a city street! The scene was BIZZARE - with 10 to 12 passersby stopping to watch such a brutal display.The Hawk paid us no attention even though we were only 6 to 8 feet away.No fear of man at all!Only a few of us stayed to watch,most hurried away rather quickly.One woman was in tears. CITY-SLICKERS!
I've also seen a rather BOLD Hawk dive-bomb a mouse he spied in the center grass devider on the interstate as we and others sped by at eigh--er--seven-- er--sixty MPH.

I love the fangs on the scarecrow! And your yard- looks like it must be your little piece of Heaven. I don't have a scarecrow, but maybe I should come up with one... This AM I went outside to see a fox sitting in the middle of our driveway, just far enough away that I thought, "What the heck is that?" until he turned around. Then he hopped up and ran into the woods. During all this, my large dogs were obliviously sniffing around in the yard... they never even saw him.

**UPDATE**

Success! My scarecrow seems to be doing his job well keeping those hawks away.It's been 9 weeks now and we've had no hawk attacks or attempts.A friend recently told me that some hawks are migratory, and that I might have some of the same problems this Fall that I had earlier this spring as they pass back thru western NC. Anyone know if that's true? (It may be Google-time!) research to follow.
Meanwhile back at the farm...the hawks will have more to choose from.I now have 12 targets on the ground as the 6 pullets that we got at TSC have now joined the Big chickens home on the free-range.They have a GOOD LIFE I must say!

My little scare crow is a cute fluffy ball and would probably look like a chicken herself from above if she was a tad bit smaller!
