I was going through some of my post and I can upon this one again. I can't get over how beautiful this coop is! Could you possibly post pics of the inside? And, how has the renovation been working out?
Well I'm finally back in the chicken thing. I got my gifted birds on Wednesday from a nearby farm. A rooster that looks exactly like the one I had before, two small hens and two young birds. Here they call the small chickens " perrets", but I'm guessing they're banties?
I'll post some pix below of the young birds if anyone wants to guess about their sex. I'll be buying some more full sized hens, (sussex, RIR), at the market on Monday morning.
thats awsome, they really knew how to build stuff right back then, none of this wimpy wood crap that rots away in 150 yrs that we got in the U.S...
that is wikid, wikid nice, seriously.
I always love it when someone refurbishes anything old with a history, too often these beautiful structures are torn down to put up something shiny and new!! Enjoyed the pics!!
On Monday I went to a nearby village market to buy some more hens from the chicken lady, but she wasn't there. I had a plan B, as I had found a local farmer who was selling some 5 month old Rhode Island Reds and lived next to the village. Nice guy, had mostly those, but some other breeds as well. I bought three and headed back into the mountains.
They seem happy, and it is amazing that the little 3 month old banty hens will boss them around... for now. I bet that won't last long. I hope my rooster can get it done when they're full grown.
THeir combs seem awfully small, do they get bigger in proportion to the bird?
