My second try

i love this stone coop. I have lots of stones on my property and it has me thinking and i can hear the gears starting to spin.

I too have lots of stones... and at first I thought I was going to build a larger run area with a stone wall about two feet high and then build the wooden frame on top of it like I did with the existing stone wall. After lots of thinking and about two hours of digging and placing rocks, I decided the existing stone walls would give enough room for my small herd. I also gained alot of respect for the Basques who built my house, barns and all the stone walls. I did learn somethying interesting though.... when they would cut a small road along a hillside, or carve out a hillside to build a barn or house... BINGO, there were your rocks.

I answered my own question about the RIR combs as I looked at some photos of mature birds. I was glad to read that they are good winter layers, as we have no shortage of winter here. I'm ready to get past it.

The birds found the manure pile on their second day of liberty. They stayed on it for hours and now make it the first stop in the morning. I tried digging for worms, but they are still a bit deep. Once they start hitting paydirt... watch out.

I also learned this week that my horse is smart enough to use the uphill side of the dirt road for a headrest.
