My set up and a few questions about litter ....

Since asking DH to remove the platform/flooring is not in the picture, maybe sand would be better than trying to do DLM on the flooring.

I have a brooder (3 x 8 x 2) in my patio, wood flooring (painted several layers) & use shavings on the floor, sprinkle PDZ/DE. I've raise chicks several months before I move them outside to their Enclosure (8 x 12 x 7). I add shavings as needed but I do "pick out" droppings daily which isn't much. I ferment feed & the smell factor is none existent plus firmer poop. Once they go out to the Enclosure, I disinfect for the next batch; sometimes raise hatchlings until 8wks for a breeder.

You can do DL over the vinyl. It will not be as functional as it would over a soil (or even rock) base, but it can be done. I do DL in my vinyl floored coop, and DL in my soil run. When the DL in the coop gets too deep, I shove it out into the run where the birds continue to work it into compost.
