I tried to vent sex my A&Ms. Not much luck. I have 1 male brown but he was too foamy for a good comparison and all the A&Ms looked the same to me.
One A&M male was crowing so that was easy. I started trying to match behavior to my Browns. One (and only one) white bird was always pretty chill so I figured she was a girl. The remaining 4 were crazy and aggressive. I separated the biggest aggressors and I figured that I had 5 males and 1 female
. I was able to isolate all but 2 birds. I assumed they were both males. The next morning I found a soft open egg in the pen with 2 birds. The next day there was another soft egg in that pen. I went away for a night and came home to 3 eggs from that pen (collected by my DH). There were another 2 eggs today. My Browns (who are a week older) were inspired and gave me their first egg today. The 1 A&M "girl" has yet to produce an egg.
My sexing experiment has taught me that:
1. I cannot vent sex yet
2. I cannot behavior sex (without the obvious eggs or crowing)
3. I need yet another cage if I continue the wait and see approach
4. I finally need an incubator (or a silkie, or an enhancement)
