My shipped roo :( **He didn't make it**

If the PO told you he was crowing before you picked him then chances are he was. How else would they know there was a rooster in there?

Thank goodness it doesn't happen but some birds do not make a move from one place to another easily. It also seems to happen more with males than it does with females. If he is still in quarantine give him a what is known as a sacrificial bird that he can see and converse with. That should help allay depression over all of the changes.

There is also the chance the change in food is not what he is used to which throws another wrench in to getting them acclimated. Fix him up something special to eat, oat meal, chopped hard boil eggs, his feed made in to a wet gruel. Give some to both birds, the other bird's delight over the treat could get him to try his.

You can pull him back from this but it is going to take extra, extra effort on your part.

I will put him in with one of my hens and try that. Hes a year old boy so I think that might help spark his interest. I tried feed and egg yoak he does not even look at it. Hes so beautiful I don't want to lose him. Right now I have him in my house so I can keep a close eye on him.

Would it help him if I put fish in his diet for the omega3s? That's suppose to be good for brain function right?

Yes. You can tried scrambled eggs too (from your own hens, preferably) But the eggs are mainly for an immunity booster.

If I'm not mistaken AHappyChick had this same problem. Her boy was injured during shipping. He would only walk backwards. She gave him prednisone, but you have to give it faithfully and wean them off of it slowly. You would have to get it from a vet.

I have a vet appointment in a half hour I will ask him about it. Thank u. Is that post on byc by chance?

I didn't find it but found a similar thread:

Looks like this happens a lot and the outcome isn't the best based on this thread

Good luck -

What kind is he? The walking backwards thing def. Sounds like an injury to the brain. Try putting a little of the food mashin his mouth, if hes blind for whatever reason he might need a little help finding his food. Electrolytes also may help. Chickens are a VERY resilient animal, with a little TLC hopefully he'll recover
