My silkie chick has the crooked neck thing. Any further help ?

I have read a lot of posts on this. I realize tht silkies have the brain through the skull problem. I am guessing this is what has happened. I have read about vitamine E and predisone and the vitamines and minerals.

Any one else had experience with this, this chick is pretty bad. I have her isolted in a carrier in the nursery with good warmth.

You do not give the age of your silkie nor the current steps taken (medication/supplements) .... if you would please provide that info I am sure this would help .

1) What type of bird , age and weight.

Silkie, 3 months and normal weight for this age and breed.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

Doing fine until this day, neck and head under body, blinks alot and has a floppy but unbroken neck.

3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
NONE

4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

Perhaps a larger bird jumped off the perch and struck her head ?

5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

Eating and drinkin just fine until this happened

6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

Do not know at this point, in isolation to find out.

7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

Isolation, starter and water in carrier.

8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

I will have to treat this bird myself, not vet here for chickens.

9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

10) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Portable building, sectioned off into seperate pens. The bedding is pine shavings about 2 inches deep al around.
Heat provided by a quartz heater, kept at about 50 degrees to 70 degrees night/day. NO heat lamp now, chicks are old enough.
perch providec about 10 inches off floor. ventilated ok water changed daily and feed replenished every other day. They eat pretty well. Using starter/poultry grain 50/50 mixed

I would start her immediately on the selenium/vit E/prednisone formula plus some vit B comlex (liquid). You will need to get some nourishment in her of course. Be careful if syringe feeding so you don't aspirate. I'd make a mash with chickstarter that can go through a small syringe. Best if you can stabilize her head and drip it out to see if she can actively get it. I feed mine every 3 hrs or so with the mash (getting water this way since diluted) at the start). Stick to Alan's reccomendations on how much and how long to do his formula. You can get pred from the vet. Such a small amt, a few pills last forever it seems.
I have had several that have had this that I brought home from the farmstore, all but one recovered, and that one had an orthopedic deformity and now lives in the house very content and doted on.

I have had birds come down with this and much of the time it is a vitamin deficiency. I add LOTS of vitamins in the water and give them several syringes full of the mix just to be sure that they are able to drink it.
