My silkie died?!

I had bought 6 LF cochins from a provate breeder who gave me a free silkie chick for driving so far.

During this last week, this chick hasn't been moving much, hasn't been eating much or drinking much. I think something may have been wrong with its legs as it moved oddly, waddled with its wings outstretched. The older cochin chicks always were trampling over it, turning it upside down. I don't think anything was broken, but it's hard to say. During the day, the larger cochin chicks go outside and the two smaller ones stay in for warmth and to keep the silkie company. The larger ones just walk all over the silkie at night though. I separated the chick last night in a small box of its own with feed and a little dish of water. I found it dead this morning.

Anyone have an idea why? Was it just weak?

It was so cute and it was DD's favorite, she's sad

I am sorry that it died...especially since it was your daughters favorite. Not sure what happened...but it sounds like it was weak from the start.

Im so sorry for your loss! Wow, its really hard to say exactly. it could have been a number of things. When you seperated it, was it able to get to a warm spot or heat lamp? It could have gotten a chill in its weakend stage. Then again it could have been in the works for a while and just came to an end. There are any hundreds of possibilities as too why. I have learned that all we can do is our best! We provide a warm, healthy, loving enviroment and mother nature will do the rest. Ultimately Mother nature will decide who stays and goes. It seams strange. we provide all the same love, care, and attention to each chick and for some reason one or another just dont make it. No matter how much one on one, around the clock care we give! I know this isn't the answer you wanted but I just really don't have an answer. Again, I am so sorry for your Loss!!!
