My silkie has a squishy lump above his breast bone

Thanks 3 N.C Chicken Chick <3 and BamaSilkies, great pics, It definitely is his crop that is protruding, soft and squishy but sticking out of his chest. He can still drink and eat. But when I cup it in my hand and gentle hold it Silkie starts to shudder and quack and shake. What can I do to help him, I am going back out into the coop to see how he is doing, hopefully sleeping. My rabbit Bugsey and Silkie-boy have been together for 18 months and never a problem, I have never seen Bugsey go after any of my chickens before!! This could turn into a problem for Bugs unfortunately for him!!!

No problem. Its good that the squishey thing just turned out to be his crop.

Maby bugs was just on guard? When you said he (silkie) was trembling I started to wonder...
How much do you hold your silkie roo?
How hard is he to catch?
The reason I ask is whenever I hold my silkie roo he shivers. He just dosen't like me.

I hand raised my Silkie-boy since he was 4 weeks old, keep him in a chicken wire and wood cage for the first 9 months until this past spring. He definitely is a pet roo to me and me only, doesn't like my daughter or husband. And they really don't like him. I sit in the run every morning to feed them fresh veggies and Silkie-boy likes to sit on my lap and coo at me. If I want him to come to me I call him and he comes running.

The problem I am currently having sure sounds like sour crop to me, I have been giving almost daily bread crumbs with their veggies. I am going to check first thing in the morning and feel him again. I am going to start all my chickens on ACV immediately and see and smell if Silkie-boy has a sour smell coming from his mouth. Also going to try the yogurt too. Can't hurt.

As for Bugsey, I just don't know about him the the situation. I will take him out into the run with Silkie-boy and the girls and sit and see just what happens. Could it be a cross species boy dominate thing?? Who knows! lol

Another thought re the shivering when you touch his crop.... are you putting upward pressure on it when you touch it? I've read that if you want to make them vomit out their crop contents you just massage it upwards.... maybe his shaking is actually because you touching his crop is making him want to puke?

While after a night of no sleep due to worry, worry, and yes more worry, I very slowly went out to the coop this morning (almost expecting to find my Silkie-boy dead on the floor)

:ya SURPRISE, SURPRISE!! There was my Silkie-boy in the far nesting box getting it ready for one of his women!!! He came bounding out just a cluck, cluck clucking at me! I immediately flet his throat from under is beak on downward and no lump of any kind:weee:weee:weee

Very thin though, so after alot of research I am starting on my chickens on ACV treadment and anything else that is natural and good for them. Also NO MORE BREAD ON A DAILY BASIS! Only as a treat once a week, increases the fresh veggies and oyster shells. That's the update, need to get back outside on check on the carnivorous rabbit. If my bugs is still misbehaving, I wil take hime back to my g/f's farm and release in the woods along with all the rest of his old buddies!

A Big Thank-You to everyone's suggestions and support last night when I really needed it!!!

Thats great news! One of my girls had sour crop and it was because I was throwing clumps of grass in the run, thinking they'd have something fun to peck at... little did I know that was a terrible idea!

I am definetly more caustious now, and I always have acv in the waterers. Happy to hear your boy is back, just in time for the holidays too!
