Hello everyone!

My silkie just hatched her first egg. She went broody about 21 days ago and now we have a baby! Not only is it her first egg, but our first experience with it as well. Do we need to put some chick starter in there with the chickens? We currently have layer feed in there but they free-range about 80% of their food usually. The silkie is sweet but... not exactly the smartest chicken I have. I have some other chicks that are about 3 weeks old inside but I know I can't put it with them or by itself. What should I do?

Thanks!

Leave it alone with mama! I assume she is sitting on other eggs still? More may hatch. They don't need to be moved or fed for a couple days. 2 to 3 days usually. If you have a separate area you can add chick starter and water when the rest hatch and mom can show the babies where and how to eat and drink.

She only laid one but has been sitting on two of the ceramic eggs as well. She just kinda scooted them into her nest as well lol. I put some water, chick starter, and chick grit in the coop with them and I'll just see how it goes. Thanks!
