I have read that this sort of thing can happen when there is no rooster.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Not really, it's pretty normal. One hen is just asserting her dominance as the top of the pecking order.

Sorry, I don't get why you need to do anything about it. It doesn't hurt anything.

How would you feel if you were a chook and another chook bit into your neck and stood on your back?

My question seems to have offended you and I am sorry for that. That was not my intention. It really is a natural part of the pecking order. Since I'm not a chicken I spend very little time wondering what it would feel like to be a chicken. However, If you really think she's being hurt you can always separate her from the flock. Don't put her by herself though, they really need to be with other chickens. They are very social animals. I'm afraid there will always be someone at the bottom of the pecking order though. That's just the way it is.

Don't ask don't tell.
