Last week one of my silkies, Alice, was a little under the weather. She had some sort of mucus dripping from her beak and was super lethargic and a little dirty. We gave her a soak in a warm bath and she seems much better. Only now she is splashing water from the feeder on her head and chest and then rolls in the dirt. A total hotness.

Alice is still being Alice. My other silkies are all clean and fluffy despite a week of rain. Floyd was having his way with the ladies and just looked her up and down and kept walking. She is super docile, allowing me to pet and pick her up with zero fuss. I'm considering bringing her inside for another bath and keeping her inside until completely dry. Any thoughts or advice?

LOL!!!! BOY..she sure does like to be a nature girl...doesn't she???? HOW could Floyd pass her by????:lau I had a silkie as a house chicken and she loved it! We let her outside to forage, dust ect several times a day. I currently have 2 house chickens:D Come on over the house chicken thread...yes there is a lot of us out there !

House chickens? Interesting. I had all 28 of my original babies in the living room for a month and a half while we were building their coop. We would have them running about and sitting them in our laps (I wanted friendly chickens).
How do you contain the mess? I don't think I'd mind Alice in the house, she a bit of a runt compared to the rest of them. And not big on roosting.

It looked like it had cleared up, but the mucus is back again today. She seems super under weight and she just circles the pen. She sat in my lap for 30 min while I tried to clean her up a bit. That's when i found a lump on her neck just under her beak. I don't know if it's some sort of tumor or something stuck in her throat. I'm concerned that she isn't going to make it. With her sickness and then looking like she was bouncing back with her silliness she has become my favorite.
