My Silkies are here!

I got a reply from Ideal, regarding the dot on the head. She told me it was a indication marking, of the same variety. That seems vague, but I'm not going to push it. She also offered to refund me money for the 2 chicks with missing toes, but I'm not sure if I want to take up that offer.

My silkies from Ideal are thriving. After taking their pics today, I've merged them with me MyPetChicken batch of silkies. They are extremely happy with more buddies around, and are eating, drinking, sleeping and pooping perfectly. Warranted, the Ideal silkies are a tad bit smaller, and they have dots on their heads and some are missing toes, but other than that, I'd say the quality for both silkies are comparable. The topknots are distinct, and they have feathered legs, but some of the Ideal silkies don't have 100% black toes, some are light. I'm very happy that they are so happy and thriving. So far, the chicks I got from Ideal do well health wise.

The red colored chicks that were packed in with my Ideal order are Rhode Island Reds and they are male. I've put them up on craigslist and someone is coming to get them tmrw. I don't want too many males and having to deal with them later.

Going to post pics next.

Honestly, from a hatchery, I feel it is not reasonable to expect that all chicks will have the 5 toes on each foot. Even with high quality stock, 8 or 9 toed birds pop up every once in awhile.

It is very kind of them to offer a refund for the 9 toed chicks.

I can forgive a 9 toed bird or one with extra toes but not an 8 toed bird. They clearly state that their birds represent the breed variety. 10 toes, black skin, vaulted skulls, silkie feathering, walnut combs, turqoise earlobes, etc. They don't gaurantee the quality so the toes may not be correctly spaced, the comb may be crooked or slightly off color, there may be some hard feathers or the crest may not be very full or other things that make the bird not SQ, but if it's something that is totally wrong for the breed (like a straight comb or 8 toes) then I would complain.

Here are the photos for my Silkies from Ideal. Overall, I am pleased by how healthy the chicks are, and although 2 black silkies had only 9 toes, instead of 10, they are really thriving and growing so well.

Kimi and Rummy accompany me to the Post Office to fetch the chicks home. They are very eager and happy to have new chicks.

When we get home, they can't wait for the box to open, so that they can have a good detailed look at every single one of them. I'm so excited too. All the chicks made it. YAY.

Black silkie. They are so tiny and fluffy, it is hard to resist adoring them. I am growing more partial to the black and blue chicks.

Another black chick. You couldn't guess they were missing a toe.
