I've raised baby silkies twice now and both times I've had to deal with pasty butt. Their butts are so fluffy that they accumulate poop until it blocks their vents and I have to bathe them regularly or trim their butt feathers which is difficult on a small bird and I always worry about cutting their vent on accident which would be horrible. I have 11 silkie chicks right now and I want to know if there's a better way to avoid pasty butt. I'm using a heat lamp that might me too hot for them but last time I had silkies, I used a heating plate and the problem still occurred, I changed the heat lamp bulb for a smaller one just in case. I never have this problem with any of my other chicks, just the silkies.
