I made the mistake (I want more) of only getting 1 of these in my 6 from TSC ( the other 5 were EE). I say mistake, because this is my first time raising baby chicks and I don't have any other SLW to compare her to as she grows.

At the feed store as a chick, she just had the black with some white/silver markings.

As she grew the first couple weeks, her feathers looked like a very pretty black and gold/copper mix, no silver at all. I was really thinking she had possibly been mis-sorted at Hoover Hatchery ( where our TSC sources from).

Into week 3 and the copper/gold is being replaced by silver/white again and she is looking how I guess she is supposed to.

A google search doesn't give me anything about how their feathers come in from young to POL, color-wise. I guess I posted here to see how other SLW families have grown. I am sure you have experienced this color change ( assuming it's normal to the breed ).

Anyone else who initially thought they were duped only to find out they got what they bought?

Although, I would have been happy with a gold wyandotte, also. This bird is so calm. She was the first to dust bathe at 2 weeks. She is one of my favorites. Doesn't mind being held, either.

Pics would be helpful.
I've had SL Wyandottes as well as a couple of other SL breeds and I don't recall any of them getting any gold tones at any time.
But that being said nothing surprises about chicks from Hoover's.

Well, my first time posting pics here and these aren't the best. Here's her progression ( best photos I have of her so far ). She is a sweet thing. It's hard to see in these, but there was a copperish gold color that is slowly changing to white. It's very pretty.

When she was just home from the store:

Week 2 You might be able to see that there was a warmer tone on her lighter areas, it's a bad pic

Here she is now, during week 3. Her colors are changing fast this week. She was stretched out calling for her sisters in the second image below. She normally is a fluffy thing. But, you can see she has some copper tones in these pics from today. At first, all her white was this same color.

That isn't a silver laced Wyandotte. Chicks look like this

I've googled their image as chicks, too. I saw that one. All I can say is she looked like that, only a little darker. The bin at TSC was labelled Silver Laced Wyandotte. That's all I can go by, I'm a newbie. I love her though. I will post more as she grows. She looked more like the one on the right in this image

TSC is very good at having no idea what breed or sex of chicks they have.

In the chick pic she looks chocolate brown in color. Is that the case or is it the lighting? In the older pic, are the legs really white?

I got my pet slws at 6-8 weeks of age, my first & only chickens. Although I have no comparison, Mildred & Louise are very sweet & friendly girls, very docile, not to mention absolutely gorgeous, although I look at them through glasses clouded with love

Her legs and body are mostly black. The lighting in that room is terrible. We got the house in November and I haven't gotten round to getting rid of all the yellowy bulbs. I think she is gorgeous and sweet, no matter what she turns out to be. But, I will post pictures when she matures. They had SLW in the bin with Black Copper Marans. My TSC so far seems to know their birds. The lady who usually helps me is a chicken mom herself.

@2hotchicks

Your ladies are lovely. I have read the temperament is typical to breed, and so far it seems true.
