My six chickens all sleeping in one next box

Our silly 9 BO pullets are doing the samething, they make a pile in a corner and sleep. They have a roost bar 18" high made from a 2x4, another that is 3' high, besides a log with the twisty branches on it. They play on the log in the day don't even go near the roosts.

After dusk I have gone out and put them on the low roost, but they always hop down after about a 1/2 hour and pile in the corner. Hoping they start getting the hang of it soon, in dog crate they used to like sleeping on the stick in there. Since in the coop/run they acting like idiots.

This is exactly what my 7 week bantams do. I gave them different roosts at different heights but they sleep in a pile on the floor. Glad to know it's just what they do at this age.

A couple reasons. They all like to huddle at night regardless of ambient temperature. At 11 weeks, they may not have gotten the urge to roost yet. When they begin to roost, they like to go to the highest point. If the roosts aren't significantly higher than the nests, they'll continue to sleep in the nest.
The last reason is that you haven't blocked off the nests. I keep them blocked until the birds are 16 weeks of age.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I have 22 14 week old pullets and cockerels in a coop. They used to all huddle in a corner at night. Then a few would get on the roost. Over a few weeks time (they were put in the coop at 9 weeks old), more and more got on the roost. Now there are only a few still huddling in the corner at night. Rebels!!

Actually, I'm sure they will all end up on the roosts.

They were always in the coop as chicks in a box, so they were used to the coop. Then we took down the lamp and box and they were happy.
