Two days ago I entered the house to find that the foster dog had escaped his kennel and killed four of my six chicks (Buff Orpingtons and Ameraucanas). He was chasing the SLW around when I caught him. I was devastated that he killed my chicks, but found some solace in the fact that one survived. She ran and hid in my daughters play tent while I captured the dog. I only found four dead chicks and one live one; however, and the whereabouts of the last one has been bothering me for the last two days. Well today, I heard chirping and found the chick hidden inside the couch!! She is alive and seemingly well. I can't believe it!! The only two chicks to survive were the SLWs. Yay SLWs!!!

Awww!! Did the dog break into the brooder? I am so scared of that happening.... Glad 2 are ok.

Yes he did, although my brooder is a just at 30 gallon rubbermaid container on the floor. It wasn't much of a challenge to him. I would have figured that the locked metal dog crate would have been more of a challenge!

Aww, that's awful. But, I'm glad two of them survived! I have a dog who would DEFINITELY eat my chicks. I have the chicks locked inside a wire dog crate on top of a counter height table and the dog locked in a bedroom upstairs just to be safe. Darn dogs!

I had a chick play Houdini this weekend and my dog caught it and then my husband caught the dog. OY!

I foster too and keep them far away from the chicks - who reside in a tub inside a dog kennel *lol*
