That is an impressive hatch rate. As others have mentioned, wait until fully feathered to cull. I would place an ad in Craigslist for your culls. Lots of people would love to have them as eye candy additions to their flocks and wouldn't care if they are not perfect. If you were close to me, I'd be one of them!

This is day 3, they are all looking good, but it’s a bit early.

For some reason, they love spreading their food all over, as soon as we clean the cage.

Two of them have beautiful white marks on their faces and golden feathers. I wonder what they will look like, later on.

Almost 3 weeks, now. They are growing well, except by one, that is much smaller, compared to the others. Is that normal? We had to build a larger brooder. They like to fly from one side to the other and they love perching, so we put branches.

We’re having trouble keeping pine shavings out of the food and water, so we put shavings and cover with paper towels, it gets messy fast, but stays dry.
Would that cause problems?

You could always try raising up the waterer. A upside down plate or bowl. Something so the height is just at their breast bone and they drink level..when they scratch or kick the water is above the mess. Allot of people hang their waterers I can’t so my “grownups” water is on 4 pavers for the correct height. Big or small young or old they’re going to do what comes naturally...make a mess. Gotta love em’.

Thanks! Right now I used a terracota brick to raise and they still managed to kick the shavings all over it. I’ll try a bit higher.

Even before having chicken I enjoyed reading the posts and often visited Backyard Chickens!

It’s great to find people that care enough to share what they know.

We’ve built a coop and moved them outside this week. We’ll have to sell some of them. I think, we have 3 roosters, we are thinking on keeping 1. We might sell some of the hens too.
The “roosters” (we think they are) have some white marks on them, but mostly black, with black. I think we might be able to sex them better at 3 months, what will come soon.
I’ll try taking a good picture tomorrow.
