My son and I beginning to prepare to build our chicken coop from pallets

Here is my son on the floor of the coop. Next we will be working on the main coop door that we will open for cleaning purposes. This one should be large enough to enable us to bring a wheelbarrow over to the coop so we can just rake it out into the wheelbarrow for quick and easy cleaning.

Here is a pic of the framing for the door, hopefully this will be completed tomorrow.

A suggestion from experience: if your finished house will be sitting on the ground you will need to use some pressure treated lumber for the base because the pallet wood rots in a few years. Securing the pallets to the pressure treated where the pallets meet will also strengthen the center of your floor. You could then set the structure up on concrete blocks or brick to level it

Nice work and interested to see your finished project.

Thanks NanaKat,
Where I live if you build a permanent unmovable structure you have to get a permit from the city. In cases like this I would have to submit an architectural drawing. I can't do that thats why I'm building mine with the skids still on the bottom. I will be burying concrete blocks in the earth I set it on top of. Hopefully this will allow it to last longer. If I just screwed the skids into the pressure treated lumber it would still be movable wouldn't it?

Here is the almost completed clean out door for our coop. Tomorrow we will complete the framing attach the hinges and the handle & lock mechanism.

I built my chicken house out of pallets as well. I covered the roof with some old tarpaulin I found dumped at the side of the road. will post a picture later.
