My stop at Cackle Hatchery

How fun! I've ordered twice from Cackle, both times got 16 birds (instead of 15), all the chicks lived and thrived. Plus, we got no roosters in the sexed birds (and only 2 of the 6 straight runs were roosters). I'll use them again. Glad to hear they have a clean operation.

They have their problems, BUT if you are ordering 100 or more, they are probably the LEAST expensive. Their EEs are closer to Ameraucanas than any other hatchery I've seen... our little EE that came from them, lays a bluish egg and almost looks standard.... and their Cinnamon Queens are EGG LAYING MACHINES!

I ordered 5 black sex links, 10 BRs, 3 buttercups from them last year. Black sex link lays extra/jumbo eggs, BRs know how to play the temperature sensor in the coop, and butter cups look smallest and ALWAYS like to be in the nesting box with another hen.

I am jealous. I love going to hatcherys. Have been to Dunlops in Idaho. They also run a great hatchery but don't have enough variety. I want to go to Mansfield for the museum and Baker Creek Seeds for a long time. Maybe when my youngest flies the coop.

Ok! Just rip my heart out!

I want to go to every hatchery and none of my family likes the idea. I'll never make it there!

I'll show them, I'll make a hatchery of my own!

Regarding the older chicks, they were for sale in the store front. I don't know what they do past a certain age, but the 1 week olds were waiting for someone to buy them.

The chicks were $2.32 for BO pullets. Our local TSC sells pullets for $1.89, but they don't have the variety and didn't have BOs at all. What makes Cackle so expensive is the shipping cost imho. If we buy from them again next year, I probably won't even bother placing an order. We'll just drive to the Ozarks for another family trip and swing by the store and buy whatever they have up front.

The craziest part of the visit was the noise level. It was peep peep at a decible level unimaginable! Imagine thousands of peeps.

I just got my chicks from Cackle on Friday. I ordered 15 and got 16. So far all are doing great. I would have no problem ordering from them again.

No one is going to get everything right and it sure isn't their fault if the Post Office screws up and sends stuff to the wrong office.

I am so happy to hear this, because I was seriously thinking about driving there, probably less than 2-2.5 hours from where I live . . .instead of ordering!! Sounds like they really do have a clean honest business!
