Cackle Mini Surprise coming! Grow-a-long!

Amazing, thank you! They do seem to struggle less than the others when I handle them. I plan on all these guys to be completely free range and I live in a wooded area as well so that is good that they are feisty and have some survival instinct! They are very beautiful as well.
Of course!

They will love all that free range! Ours free range and will get very noisy if I open the coop door late 😂 They hate confinement!

I hate to report that the Ayam has passed. I was extremely excited to have this breed but unfortunately he did not make it.

I am currently treating 4 of the remaining 22 with pasty butt, they seem alright especially after a clean.
I read that olive oil can be placed on their vents to prevent sticking, and have been doing so after each clean. 2 of the 4 vents are slightly protruding although I think they are looking a bit better today. I try to clean and check on them every 3-6 hours.
They've already grown tiny wing feathers, incredible how quickly they grow.

That’s awful! Why do you think?

I believe since he was so tiny he stepped into the water and got chilled and couldn't get back to the heat lamp. Their water isn't deep (less than their ankles) but it does get really cold at night and I just didn't put it closer to the lamp last night for some reason. I placed marbles in it even though its a thin tray and am keeping it near the lamp.
I understand logically why it would have been the smallest one so I am trying to not be so upset. I just wish it wasn't my favorite breed, and one I can't afford to replace.

I’m sorry, it’s so sad when they pass. At least you know now and can put the water closer to the heat lamp (but not too close)

Everyone is holding up just fine. 3 still are a bit messy but are eating and drinking regularly and being active.

I placed a dirt tray for them to scratch in and had to immediately add another as they were piling in it and pushing each other out.

I believe one is an Ameraucana however I know that it is difficult to determine whether it is a true or not. I'm not even sure if hatcheries sell 'true' breeds, although everything I read seems to be differing opinions and less facts.

I will try to take some pictures of my guesses for some confirmation, if not today then tomorrow as it is very windy right now.

It has been rainy and cold however today seems to be looking up weather wise, I will get individual pictures as it's been a whole week already. They've practically doubled in size and have been eating quite a lot as well.

A couple of them think they can fly out of the brooder already! I have placed a net near it just in case and will be putting hardware cloth behind the door. Two of them like to try and fight me for whatever reason, I've been trying to hold them more than the others.

I know they need grit before any treats, I am unable to get grit but I have a creek on my property that has plenty of rock and I believe this will do if I sift through it.
Not a ton to update as everyone seems to be doing well. Its now time for me to sit with them and watch some videos. (They like to peck the screen!)
