My Story, Our experience, join me on my adventure!

Hey all, I'm back from Belgium. :)

Still no eggs from my little munchkins and they are roughly 30 weeks now, I don't mind, it's autumn and I've waited much longer in the past anyway. Selma has begun to moult so I am down to zero eggs per day! :barnie

Anyway, Monica's foot seems to have healed which is good and the puppy is incredibly adorable.

The trip to Belgium was amazing, it was short but great. I mainly went because it is currently the centenary of WWI so I went to visit Ypres, see the graves and trenches for myself. It was astounding and very moving, such a waste of life. :( But I couldn't go to Belgium and not get lots of Chocolate and Belgium Waffles. So I'm fully stocked. The town was beautiful and I will definitely go back in the future.

I am dealing with a teething puppy and a half naked moulting chicken. Other than that there is not much to update.

I'm still at the grand egg count of 0 eggs per day that shows no signs of improving judging by poor moulting Selma and looks-ready-but-is-currently-queen-of-the-holding-out-club Monica.

Pumpkin Cake! Happy Halloween!

Also, wow! There is nearly 1000 views on this thread, if you took the time to read it, thank you very much and I hope you enjoyed or at least learnt something from my little adventure. :)

It's bonfire night here so I wanted to put them to bed early so they weren't spooked by all the nearby fireworks. Selma is still moulting heavily, she has lost all of her neck feathers, and the majority of the feathers on her wings, although those are beginning to grow back. I think it will be awhile until she returns to egg laying.
In other news it's miserable weather here in Bury but I still got some photos of the gang, they may be a little bit blurry because I had to zoom in on quite a few!

Oh and the puppy is 7 weeks old tomorrow but I haven't gotten a good photo of her because she never sits still!

Update, still no eggs but Monica is getting close! you can see in the photos that her comb is getting red and that all of Selmas feathers have grown back so she is looking lovely again.

I have never had less than a dozen chickens at a time, usually way more. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a flock that small. Do you ever want a bigger flock? I guess it would be hard for you even if you wanted to because of the foxes, though.

I often want a bigger flock because I love all of the different breeds but I find that half a dozen is a good number, you get enough eggs and it works well as far as flock dynamics. I am planning to get two more hens to bring me up to six in the Spring, I don't have the space for much more than that.
