Does anyone have one chicken that is just disfunctional?
We have one hen, has some serious shell gland issues. For a while she stopped laying and we didnt mind because she laid the thinnest ugliest shells in the flock. We are too soft to cull, she is best friends with another chicken in the group and it gives the flock balance.
Today she laid this beauty... she usually aborts them on the roost, most times without a shell. I wish she would retire.

The crinkled pinkish thing is a crumpled egg shell. The white sac is also an egg shell.

I have a technical difficulties chicken as well. When she used to lay, she had these strangely chalky-powdery shells that were very thin, and often gave me gifts of shell-less eggs splattered everywhere as well. Now, she only seems to lay maybe a dozen eggs in the whole year, shelled or unshelled. I'm actually grateful, I didn't need her clumsy self trying to lay eggs anyway. Because even without her shell issues, she's so much of a bull in a china shop that she often would crack or break whatever eggs were already in her chosen nest just by fumbling around. So literally she was giving me a negative amount of eggs. She's still plenty happy to be a partof the flock, and no one seems to hold her weirdness against her, she's relatively respected by the youngsters.
