I do love my teens and they DO drive me insane!


Daniel, you can set the phone so it is silent for texts and only rings for actual calls. I'm a 'geezer' and I know that much!

Sparkles, if I'd been home and they didn't answer you can be sure the law would've been by my side when I found them...

I am 16 and it is not "all about me" it's peer pressure in most cases,
who are their friends? sometimes teens will feel as though it is "un-cool" to seem dependent on their mothers and will ignore their parents when they are with their friends.
especially if they do not have a lot of friends or are being bullied or made fun of.

and as for cleaning their bedrooms either they will find a bug in their rooms and clean it up real quick or you could have them read about some yucky things that will grow in their rooms if they don't clean it up.


P.S. simple things such as eating dinner together or cleaning together should do the trick.

Well, i have a suggestion, it worked like a charm for my sister. She came home after her daughter didnt answer her phone and she said where is your phone. Daughter says why? Mom says you dont answer for me so its gone. Daughter: AHHHHHHHHHHH please dont take my phone, i promise i will answer. Mom...stares with daggers and says...next time you dont answer, its gone!

Worked like a charm.

i have 2 teens..13 & 17...they answer their phones because they are afraid of me..and they know the wrath and fury that will come if they dont answer...
2 good rules to follow as a parent...rule # 1...consistency at all times...rule #2..there must be consequences if they do wrong..
don't get me wrong..they love me and i love them dearly..they respect me and i respect them..
most kids are very disrespectful to adults and they try to avoid adults as much as possible
some kids just walk all over their parents and i have a hard time dealing with that when i see it
well...i wish the best of luck to all parents who are raising children in this millenium

They are clear there are consequences. In fact, they asked me to go back to spanking them because it was easier and over faster

It just frustrates me to be worried and be away from them, and then have them not answer. We'll be addressing that at dinner tonight. And also the 'hotel guest' attitudes I've been getting lately. School just ended and I already can't wait for it to be back in session!!!!

then you need to draw the line, my mother would never let me get away with that every week I vacuum and dust my room. every time someone in the family left a mess in the bathroom or bedroom my mother would threaten to take a picture and email it to every one, the room was always cleaned up within 15 minutes

Well I think a better plan is give them 2 quarters and a pager. Take the cell phones, sell them and cut that bill out of the equation. When they do not respond to the page from mother...take their pager, ground their butts to their room until they have a blizzard in Aruba! Mine is approaching 13 and wants a cell phone...my response to that request

"When you have a job and are paying the bill...feel free to get one but as of this moment you are not responsible enough to keep your room clean much less have a cell phone"

We survived to reach our 40's without cell phones. Start kicking butt, taking names and taking their crap until they learn the meaning of the words "Respect" "Responsibility" and "Obligation".

Or you could send them to me for a week....muahahahahaha I need new butts to kick, it gets old kicking the same one all the time.
