my thieving otter eggs are in the incubator- need photos of setups please

I used a heating plate on mine with the back set to lowest possible and front angled slightly up. I had the food in a small tray and the water in a small tray with marbles and I stuffed both half to 3/4 the way under plate so they wouldn't have to come out if they didn't want to. Sorry you've had a rough go of it this time!

thats what i did, maybe they just couldnt handle it? i dont know. there so tiny compared to regular chicks. im looking for a different brand o f plate to try again. I just cant handle the stress of leaving a heating light on when no one is home.

I use the rent-a-coop heat plate, and it's done great with two hatches so far, if you need a brand rec. The chicks definitely lay under it; the first two days I sometimes put a folded towel under it if the lowest height doesn't seem low enough.

I used a 10" heating plate for 20 chicks. I lost one. The plate seemed adequate and the chicks seemed to self-regulate warmth after just a few days by spending time under and then out of the plate area.
