My third try--2boys1homestead

Welcome to BYC. I too have trouble posting from time to time. I think it's because I try to start before everything has been downloaded. I'm not the most patient person.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Do you have a particular breed in mind?

I'm hoping to get Araucanas or Ameraucanas. Not really sure what the difference is (besides geography), but they are the ones I have my heart set on at the moment.

Ameraucana and Araucana are two different breed that have strict written standards, dealing with color and their physical description that the birds have to match to be considered as their respective breeds. http://www.ameraucana.org/standard.html and http://araucana.net/ are the websites for the parent clubs, they have write ups on their facts pages about the differences between them all. .. Mostly Araucana have ear tufts and no tails (and tend to be hard to breed), Ameraucana have beards and muffs and tails. Both breeds have long threads on BYC https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...for-posting-pictures-and-discussing-our-birds and https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/288425/araucana-thread-anyone Easter Eggers are probably the most popular colored egg layer, they are mixes with usually one of the two breeds in their ancestry, a lot of commercial hatcheries and feed stores etc will sell them incorrectly as Ameraucana/Araucana… if you are looking mostly just for colored eggs, they are a wonderful choice for a laying flock.

Thanks for the info!

I've seen these clubs online. Are they worth joining if I only intend to lay eggs with the chickens? I don't plan on doing any shows or selling the chicks or anything like that.
