I have only one French Toulouse goose. We had an unfortunate situation that took our other goose. They were sexed from Metzer farms, but we got them from other people so I have no idea if my goose is a hen or drake. No eggs, but, none of my ducks, who are plenty old enough lay eggs—- at least where we can find them! Ugh!

So, Honky is very shy. Everyone who comes over is afraid he’ll chase them. Just the opposite. Actually my silly hubby will walk after Honky asking for a hug. :)

so, I ll show picks, they are from a few months ago for whole body, so might not be able to tell gender. I have one of head, maybe that’ll help?

but the NOISE...he arches his head, sort of makes a gasp/hiss...and then later throughout the day does this screeching thing. Several high pitch tones. He used to just make low volume honks, hence his name.

So I was just curious if this indicates sex? I might get him a partner in the spring. He has many duck buddies now, and doesn’t seem to notice that he’s different.

thanks a ton!

My French Toulouse female has low sounding voice I don’t have a Toulouse gander just a Embden gander and boy is he loud he sounds shrill and if he got one decibel louder he’d break glass I believe. Geese are totally opposite from ducks where drakes mumble female geese mumble where female ducks quack loud, ganders are loud and high pitched honk.

@Duckfarmer1 does your goose have a special duck he likes to hang out with? If so he may have chosen a mate already. My gander chose his mama Muscovy as his mate when he sexually matured but he’d also mate with the other Muscovy females too if he got a chance. And he never hurt any of them, ganders aren’t like drakes they wait till the female gives the okay for mating. You could say they are more like gentlemen.

I agree! I dont know what's in the water around here but the geese are getting quite worked up over each other, and Chance is making moves to be the man of the yard... this should be fun...:hit

X2! The ganders seem to make it known loud and clear they are still around much more often than the females. It will be hard to tell since you don't have another one to compare, but if I had to guess...I would say gander. And he's announcing to everyone in a mile radius that he's ready for mating season!!

wow, a gentleman? Big difference! He definitely hangs out with the “babies” he came with, Little Lou and Louise, and two khakis that I never named! But other than that he just kind of is one of those kids that bounces from group to group. But he seems happy, I just don’t want him sad, which, there is a big difference between the two.

My gander seemed very happy when he lived with just the Muscovys I think he thought he was one other than worms didn’t appeal to him. But when I got a female goose for him he was already 5 yrs old and very bonded to his female duck so I had to separate him entirely from the ducks to get him to even look at the female goose. He wanted nothing to do with her until 5 months later when she was old enough to have her first breeding season boy did he fall head over hills in love then and they are inseparable 7 yrs later. He doesn’t even like Muscovy since he became secret service agent to Missy his goose love. So if you decide Honky is gander come spring while he is still young you might want to get him a female. He will be of breeding age by then. Are you going to get a full grown goose or a gosling and brood it yourself?

I don’t know yet. Thinking through the options now. Chris doesn’t love the amount of poop...ne either! Because, of course, they love to be right by the house...which is what I love too. But, if he pooped less, I’d have gotten one by now. I think, if I had other small chicks or ducks it would make it ok for a little new one. But, if not, I’d rather look for a big one so it not lonely..oh, plus, I m pretty sure you can’t order just One?
